PROVINCIAL SYNOD

PURPOSE: 

Synod is the organization established by the Unity Synod as the governing body of & the highest authority in the Southern Province.


CURRENT ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  

• Ensure that the principles of the Unitas Fratrum are maintained in the province.
   
• Maintain oversight of the temporal & spiritual affairs of the province & its congregations.
   
• Legislate rules & regulations.
   
• Elect members of the Provincial Elders Conference, Bishops, delegates to Unity Synod & members of interprovincial & external institutional boards.
   
• Act as the final court of appeal for individual members, congregations, institutions & boards of the province.

Proposed ADDITIONS TO ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Evaluate the status of the province & its congregations based on established direction & results.
   
• Ensure an up-to-date vision for the province.
   
• Establish the strategic direction, goals, & focus of mission & ministry for the province.
